Suno rolled out version 5.5 on March 26, shipping three features aimed at making its AI music generator feel less generic: Voices, Custom Models, and My Taste. The headline is Voices, which the company calls its most requested feature. Pro and Premier subscribers can now record or upload singing samples and generate tracks using an AI replica of their own voice.
There's a verification step: Suno matches your singing voice against a spoken phrase you read aloud, a safeguard meant to confirm you're cloning yourself and not someone else. Cloned voices stay private by default, visible only to the creator. Voice sharing is planned but not yet live. Custom Models, the second new feature, let paid users upload tracks from their own catalog to fine-tune v5.5 toward their style. Pro and Premier subscribers get up to three custom model slots. My Taste, available to all users including free-tier, learns your genre and mood preferences over time.
The timing is notable. Suno dropped v5.5 the same day Google unveiled Lyria 3 Pro, its own upgraded AI music system. Suno, which raised $250 million in November 2025 at a $2.45 billion valuation according to its blog archive, is clearly trying to stay ahead in a race that now includes Google, Udio, and a growing list of competitors. The company says v5.5 lays the groundwork for new music models it plans to launch with industry partners later this year.
One catch worth noting: Voices is gated behind paid plans starting at $10 per month. Free users get the My Taste personalization and the older v4.5 model, but nothing else from this release.
Bottom Line
Suno's v5.5 adds voice cloning for Pro and Premier subscribers ($10+/month), with custom model fine-tuning limited to three slots per user.
