Meta acquired Limitless, the AI startup formerly known as Rewind that builds a smart pendant capable of recording, transcribing, and indexing real-world conversations. Financial terms remain undisclosed. CEO Dan Siroker confirmed the deal Friday, saying the team will join Meta to help bring "personal superintelligence to everyone" through AI-enabled wearables.
The Limitless pendant, a 1.25-inch device that clips to clothing or hangs from a lanyard, uses beamforming microphone technology to capture audio and generate searchable transcripts via a companion app. It sold for $99 with subscription tiers for heavier users. The startup raised over $33 million from a16z, First Round Capital, NEA, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Meta will immediately stop selling Limitless devices to new customers. Current owners get free access to the premium subscription tier and support through at least December 2026, but must accept revised privacy terms to continue using the service. The company's desktop app, Rewind, will be shut down entirely.
The acquisition lands days after Meta poached longtime Apple design chief Alan Dye, signaling an aggressive push into AI hardware beyond its Ray-Ban smart glasses. The Limitless team will join Reality Labs' wearables division, likely contributing expertise in on-device transcription and memory recall rather than reviving the pendant as a standalone product.
The Bottom Line: Meta is stacking AI wearable talent as it races to define what comes after smartphones.
