xAI has widened access to Grok Build, its terminal coding agent, opening the early beta to all SuperGrok and X Premium+ subscribers. The company laid this out in its launch announcement. Until now the tool was gated behind SuperGrok Heavy, the top tier that runs around $300 a month.
Worth flagging: xAI still calls this an early beta, not a finished release, so "exited closed beta" overstates it slightly. What actually changed is the price of entry. SuperGrok sits near $30 a month and X Premium+ around $40, a long way down from Heavy.
Grok Build runs in the terminal for debugging and refactoring local code. Its Plan Mode reads the whole project first and drafts a step-by-step plan, and nothing touches the codebase until the developer approves it. The tool supports MCP servers, parallel subagents, and a headless flag for environments with no GUI.
xAI also wired its Imagine model into the CLI, so image and video generation runs straight from the terminal. The agent sits on the grok-build-0.1 model, which the company says carries a 256K-token context window. Independent benchmarks comparing it to Claude Code or Codex CLI aren't out yet. Feedback in beta routes back through a /feedback command in the CLI.
Bottom Line
Grok Build access now starts at the roughly $30/month SuperGrok tier, down from the $300 SuperGrok Heavy plan.
