Sam Altman is making it cheap to ditch Claude. OpenAI announced Wednesday that eligible enterprise customers who switch within the next 30 days get two months of free Codex usage for net-new seats, via a dedicated enrollment form on its site.
The timing isn't subtle. Anthropic's developer account posted hours earlier that starting June 15, programmatic Claude usage (the Agent SDK, claude -p, GitHub Actions, and third-party agent tools) gets pushed out of standard subscription quotas into a separate monthly credit. Pro plans get $20, Max 20x users get $200, and unused balances expire each cycle. Once depleted, requests bill at full API rates only if a user has opted in to extra usage.
"Codex is the best AI coding product, and we want to make it easy to try," Altman wrote on X. That's the standard line for a CEO running a switching promo. OpenAI also dropped the seat fee for Codex's business tier last month, so the offer stacks on an already-cheaper baseline. Anthropic countered the same day with a 50% bump to Claude Code weekly limits through July 13. The Anthropic billing change goes live June 15.
Bottom Line
OpenAI's promo covers two months of Codex usage for net-new seats at eligible enterprise accounts that switch within 30 days.
