Smartphone product photo being transformed into a polished studio-quality marketing image through Google's AI-powered Pomelli Photoshoot tool

Google Labs rolled out Photoshoot, an AI product photography tool inside its Pomelli marketing platform, on February 19. Upload a phone photo of your product, pick a template, and the tool generates polished studio or lifestyle shots ready for ads and social feeds. No lighting rig, no photographer, no post-production budget required.

Photoshoot runs on Google's Nano Banana image generation model and leans on Pomelli's "Business DNA" system, which crawls a company's website to extract brand colors, fonts, and visual style. Generated images automatically match that profile. Users can choose from curated templates, swap backgrounds via text prompts, or apply a reference image's style to their product shots. Daniel Adonai, Senior Product Manager at Google Labs, framed it as solving a cost problem: professional product shoots can run $500 to $5,000 per item, which is brutal for small retailers selling handmade jewelry or artisanal coffee.

Pomelli itself launched in October 2025 as a joint experiment between Google Labs and Google DeepMind, already offering AI-generated social campaigns and, since January, video creation through Veo 3.1. Photoshoot slots into that pipeline so businesses can go from raw product photo to finished campaign asset without leaving the platform.

It's free during the beta, but only available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Google hasn't said anything about pricing post-beta or when other markets get access. The competitive angle is worth watching: Amazon already offers AI product imagery for its sellers, and Shopify has been testing similar tools. Google's edge is tighter integration with its own ad ecosystem, though that integration hasn't materialized yet.

Bottom Line

Google's Pomelli Photoshoot generates studio-quality product images from smartphone photos for free during beta, available now in four English-speaking markets.
