Anthropic pushed back the deadline on free Claude Fable 5 access. The model was set to leave subscription plans July 7, but the company posted on X that included access on all paid plans now runs through July 12. The extension applies automatically.
Fable 5 stays available on Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans for up to 50% of weekly usage limits. After July 12, it moves to usage credits: $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, double the rate of Opus 4.8. Some cybersecurity and biology queries get rerouted to Opus 4.8, and Anthropic says those won't be billed at Fable prices.
This isn't Fable 5 leaving subscriptions for good. Anthropic's redeployment post and follow-up comments say the plan is to fold it back into subscriptions once capacity allows, framing the caps as a demand problem rather than a pricing shift. The catch: weekly usage caps still apply, so the extra five days only help users who haven't burned through their allowance. One user noted their reset lands July 10, leaving just three usable days.
The model returned July 1 after the US lifted export controls imposed June 12. What happens after July 12 depends on whether Anthropic has the compute to keep it in the subscription tier.
Bottom Line
Free Fable 5 access on paid plans runs through July 12, after which it costs $10/$50 per million input/output tokens.
