OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT Go everywhere ChatGPT is available, pricing the budget subscription at $8 per month in the US. The company also confirmed it will begin testing ads in the free tier and Go plan in the coming weeks.
Go subscribers get 10x the messages, file uploads, and image creation compared to free users, plus access to GPT-5.2 Instant and a longer memory window. The plan first launched in India in August 2025, where it's priced around $4.50, and has since expanded to more than 170 countries. OpenAI calls it "our fastest growing plan" without disclosing subscriber numbers.
The advertising announcement drew more attention. Ads will appear at the bottom of responses when a sponsored product is relevant to the conversation, OpenAI says. Personalization will be on by default with an opt-out. The company claims conversations stay private from advertisers and data won't be sold, though these are company commitments, not technical guarantees. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers remain ad-free.
ChatGPT now offers three consumer tiers globally: Go at $8, Plus at $20 with access to GPT-5.2 Thinking and the Codex coding agent, and Pro at $200 for GPT-5.2 Pro with maximum memory. Ad testing starts with US users only in the coming weeks.
The Bottom Line: OpenAI is betting a cheaper tier plus advertising revenue can fund its $1.4 trillion infrastructure commitments while keeping premium plans ad-free.
