Anthropic backed off the billing overhaul it had set for June 15, doing so right before the change was due to go live. "Nothing changes for now," the company told subscribers by email, per The Decoder. The official guidance now lives on Anthropic's support page.

The plan would have pulled the Agent SDK, the claude -p command, and third-party apps out of standard subscription pools. Each subscriber would have gotten a fixed monthly credit instead, tiered by plan: $20 on Pro, up to $200 on Enterprise. Burn through that and you'd flip to usage-based API pricing. For now those tools keep drawing from regular subscription limits, exactly as before.

Anthropic frames the pause as a need to align the credits with real usage patterns. That's the official line. The timing tells a fuller story. OpenAI is reportedly weighing steep API price cuts, and shifting customers onto pricier metered billing mid price war reads as a bad move. The company has also filed IPO paperwork, so losing developers over an unpopular change right before a listing carries an obvious cost.

Anthropic says it may revisit the split once it can offer tokens at lower prices. No new date was given.

Bottom Line

The Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party apps will keep drawing from normal subscription limits instead of a separate $20 to $200 monthly credit.
